teaching philosophy
Relationships with teachers in my own study of music have been some of the most influential relationships I have had in my life, and I strive to be a teacher who will have a similarly profound impact on my students.
Having studied with teachers who emphasized the Taubman technique, I focus on building a firm and healthy technical foundation early on, so that students are comfortable on the instrument, avoid injuries and are able to continually progress. Classically trained for 20+ years, I work to instill sound musical principles such as pulse, harmony, phrasing and voicing that can be used by students to navigate any genre of music. Finally, understanding the uniquely intimate and personal quality distinct in a musical teacher-student relationship, I seek to cultivate a warm, welcoming environment where students are encouraged to be curious, be open, be inspired—and therefore, grow as an artist.
Piano has been a life-long friend and being a musician, a life-long journey of learning, growth and joy. I hope to be a part of and to explore this journey with each of my students together.
